Let's Discover The Skin You're In
Do You Know Your Skin Type?
Understanding your skin and what it currently needs can be complex, but before you get too lost in the mountains of information available to you let's first work out your skin type.
Your skin type is the state of your skin ‘typically', this is generally with common characteristics we note on each skin type. When you look at the types below, you may think there are some types missing like dehydrated, sensitive... these are skin concerns or challenges, they are not skin types and we will cover these in another time.
Let's take a look at the common characteristics below:
Normal Skin Type
You're one of the chosen few if you have normal skin. Not only is it the least common skin type but it's the least problematic skin. Normal skin type typical characteristics:
smooth texture
healthy glow
fine pores
no visible blemishes, greasy patches or flaky areas
sebum production & moisture content are well-balanced
often found in younger skins
Oily Skin Type
Oily skin is characterized by a greasy or shiny appearance all over the face. This skin type is prone to acne breakouts and sometimes problematic acne in severe cases. Oily skin is the result of excess sebum production. Oily skin type typical characteristics:
enlarged, clearly visible pores
blackheads
a glossy shine
thicker skin
pale skin - blood vessels may not be visible
Combination Skin Type
A combination skin type is a mix and match of oily and dry. Combination skin type typical characteristics:
oily T-zone (forehead, nose, chin)
dry cheeks
breakouts usually appear only on forehead, chin and nose
cheeks can be sensitive
enlarged pores can be seen in the oily area perhaps with some impurities
Dry Skin Type
Often dry and dehydrated are confused. The difference is dehydrated is lacking water, dry skin is the lack of oil. When lacking oil the skin can be flaky, sensitive and even painful at times. Dry skin characteristics:
dull, especially on the cheeks and around the eyes
lack elasticity
visible lines and wrinkles
small pores
tightness or itchiness
